The village of Matawalu in Lautoka installed the Momo Na Taukei Bukuya, Ratu Josaia Bokini Nawaidranu, on Thursday.

Prior to the official installation, a procession took place whereby Ratu Nawaidranu was dressed in traditional attire and proceeded from one end of the village to the centre.

In his address, Ratu Nawaidranu thanked all those who gave him the opportunity to lead.

“This is a hard task I am taking on today that we the Yavusa Bukuya are united in today. We must pray to God and he will lead us as the hardships we are about to face is menial for the Lord,” he said

Matawalu Village headman Jone Rasi said the Edu, Bolabola, Tunuloa, Nadula and Navunirewa clans were also present for the installation.

“The former chief Adi Laisani Namosimalua served for four years before she passed away three years ago leaving the position vacant and now it will be filled,” he said.

Mr Rasi said Ratu Nawaidranu will be overseeing the Yavusa of Bukuya, who had faith in him.
