ATK Mohun Bagan striker Roy Krishna was in tears as he bid farewell to the coach who mentored him early in his football career.

Schoolteacher Vinay Singh passed away early this week and was buried in Vaturekuka, Labasa yesterday.

Roy said Singh was instrumental both in his personal and professional life.

“He (Singh) was an elder brother and a father figure that I never knew I needed in my life,” Roy said.

“He came into my life when I was just 12 but for the last 20 years of my life wouldn’t have been the same without him.

“He followed my career and pushed me all through the years.

“Even when he was in hospital he followed my games and would even wake up early in the morning to catch my live matches in India.

“My wife, Naziah, and I are blessed to have shared this special bond with him and we will surely miss his sweet and caring personality.

“Today, I’ve lost a man whose void cannot be replaced.”

Singh was the Fiji Secondary Schools Football Association vice-president and a teacher at Seaqaqa Central College.

Singh was 48-years-old during the time of his death and is survived by his wife and three children.
