Mourners Bid Final Farewell To Ro Dona

I am more sad that you won’t see me in my wedding dress and give me away.
This is what Adi Varanisese Batimaiwai said as she cried, giving an emotional eulogy at her grandfather’s funeral.
The traditional leader and former SODELPA Vice President Turaga na iTaukei Navolau Ro Dona Takaleiyale was laid to rest yesterday.
The funeral service was held at the Na Josaia Memorial Church at Lomanikoro Village in Rewa and streamed live on Facebook.
His granddaughter Adi Batimaiwai paid tribute to him and described him as a loving, caring and kind-hearted man.
“He raised me and my siblings in such a way that we called him ta and not pa. He taught us, moulded us, fed us and made sure we did well in school,” she said.
“He was there for us for graduation, sweet 16, 21st birthdays, prefect induction and my engagement. And supported everyone equally.”
She said her last conversation with him ended with him encouraging her to continue praying and trusting in God and not to give up as she was unwell.
The former Prison Officer also had experience working in the tourism industry. He is survived by his wife, six children and his grandchildren.
