The Magistrates Court in Suva will fix a hearing date in the case of Fiji Trades Union Congress and National Workers Union general secretary, Felix Anthony, on September 1.

He appeared before Magistrate Waleen George yesterday.

He is alleged to have knowingly spread abroad by word of mouth, to Fiji Times reporter Felix Chaudhary, false news relating to the expiry of Water Authority of Fiji’s workers contracts, false news which tended to create or foster public anxiety.

The alleged offence took place on April 26, 2019 at Suva. State prosecutor Unal Dev told the court that the case was to fix hearing dates.

However, Magistrate George said she could not fix the case for hearing at this stage because the court was busy with three hearings per day.
