Aspiring chartered accountant, Labasa bred Vinay Vinit Prasad, was recognised the top Year 13 accounting student in the Northern Division last year.

The 19-year-old University of the South Pacific (USP) student thanked his parents for his success when he received his award from the Fiji Institute of Accountants.

Mr Prasad, who hails from Daku in Macuata, is a former student of Nadogo Central College.

He said he participated in the competition last year, but he did not dream of receiving the top award because of stiff competition.

Mr Prasad said he struggled a lot in his studies.

“I will continue to strive for the best in my life so that I can reach my target and make my dream come true,” he said.

Prasad also topped the Fiji Year 13 Certificate Examination in the Northern Division by scoring 376 out of 400, which was also the third highest mark in Fiji.

“I cannot see my parents struggling everyday, because my parents are farmers and I want to give them a better life to enjoy,” he said.

“Coming from a rural area we know the struggles faced by parents and we can’t expect to have everything that others have.

“Everyone has their own journey, some struggle while some reach out easily.”

Mr Prasad thanked his former teachers, students and entire school management board of Nadogo for their support towards him and other students.

He is a first year student and studying for a Bachelor of Accounting and Finance.
