COVID-19 may have disrupted people’s sources of income but for Susie Savou and her husband, Mataiasi, it was an opportunity to starting their new online business.

‘Fresh Vegetable Delivery’ an online home delivery service which commenced in July, delivers vegetables to homes around major Suva areas.

Initially, the couple were selling their produce at the Suva Municipal Market on Saturdays where Mr Savou was a wheel-barrow boy while Mrs Savou tendered to their stall.

Although selling at the market generated income, it was not enough to cater for their family needs which was why the couple diversified to vegetable delivery services.

Mrs Savou said: “We had a challenging time so my husband thought of creating a Facebook page and I added close family and friends to the page.

“I insisted on the possibility of delivering our products. Free delivery for customers who spend above $20 and a $5 charge for below within the Suva area.

“The first week was slow but when I posted it on Buy and Sell Suva Facebook page, the response was incredible as there were a lot of orders and some would come and pick it at the market.

This is the fourth week ‘Fresh Vegetable Delivery’ has been operational within the greater Suva area.

While daily expenses would be around $200, profit generated through the delivery services outweighed the challenges of last-minute order cancellations.

Mrs Savou’s father currently drives the delivery vehicle.

The couple currently reside in Sakoca, New Town in Tacirua with their three children.
