The Sakiusa Nadruku captained-Namosi side needs to work on their fitness before they defend the Farebrother-Sullivan Trophy against Lautoka next Saturday.

This was confirmed to SUNsports yesterday by Namosi team manager Emori Bolakoro after they scored a 31-30 comeback win against Yasawa at Nadovu Park in Lautoka.

“We will have to work on our fitness,” he said.

“We are also aware that Lautoka upset Nadi but we will need to withstand them too.

“We thank Yasawa for the good game and it was a good lesson for us before the next Farebrother challenge.”

Bolakoro said when they were behind 30-17, the message to the players was to keep their cool and not to play to the crowd.

What happened: Yasawa started strongly, converting two penalties in the 2nd and 11th minute through first five-eighth Jo Vetaukula.

The visitors also worked hard and were rewarded in the 19th minute after a well-worked set-piece moves from a scrum saw winger Asesela Ratumudu score a try in the corner.

In the 27th minute, Yasawa replied with a try to flanker Timoci Ratu after a quick tap in the Namosi’s 22-metre line with Vetaukula’s conversion making it 13-5.

However, Fiji Airways Fijian 7s forward Josua Vakurunabili ran in Namosi’s second try in the 36th minute with the conversion missing as they trailed 13-10.

Just on the stroke of halftime, Yasawa’s prop and rugby league convert Osea Sadrau muscled his way over the try line with Vetaukula converting it.

It wasn’t a good start also for the host in the second half, as Veitaukula was shown a red card for elbowing.

But it didn’t deter the Yasawa side, as Sadrau crossed over the line for his second try along with No.8 Jone Baleidama as they led 30-10.

Namosi quickly replied with two tries to Tomasi Sovilevu and Ratudamu respectively in a space of two minutes. Vunisa and centre Onisi Ratave kicked a conversion each.

The visitors who were trailing 24-30 scored a try under the sticks through Lekima Banuve who came off the bench with Ratave kicking over the conversion to break the hearts of the Yasawa fans,

Comment: Yasawa centre Kalioni Nasoko said: “As you know Namosi is a champion side. I told the boys to take the ball to them.

“It depends on the preparation of the team.

“It was a good game but we did give them the win since playing with 14-man is a mismatch in fifteens rugby.”
