SODELPA MP Lynda Tabuya Acquitted

SODELPA Member of Parliament and Opposition Whip Lynda Tabuya has been acquitted by the Magistrates Court in Suva this morning.

Tabuya, represented by lawyer Adish Narayan from AK Lawyers, appeared before the Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili.

The Director of Public Prosecutions filed a notice of motion with affidavit to withdraw the charges against Tabuya.

Tabuya, 46, had pleaded not guilty to one count of Malicious Act.

It was alleged that on March 19th, Tabuya posted false news on her Facebook page, “Stock up on food Viti! Have a guaranteed farm supply. It’s about to get real! #BeCOVIDready”, and “Let’s just get one thing straight Fiji, the Government brought Coronavirus into Fiji, NOT Soko. #StopBlamingThePeople #CriminalNegligence”.

Her posts were alleged to have the intention of creating public alarm, anxiety or disaffection.
