A-G: Govind, A Man Who Stands And Speaks Out

The Attorney-General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, described the late Kishore Govind as someone who had the ability to stand out and speak out.
He said Mr Govind: “Must be very much recognised because that time was very different, the atmosphere was different.”
Mr Govind was a former mayor of Ba, judge, politician and football executive. He died in Sydney, Australia, on August 9.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum, who led the Government delegation during his memorial service at Mr Govind’s hometown, said it was a loss to the nation to lose someone of that intellect. The late Mr Govind’s funeral was held in Sydney yesterday. Mr Nand was mayor of Ba Town from 1969 to 1975.
He served as judge of the High Court and Supreme Court of Fiji. He was the last chair of the Ba Township Board and first mayor of Ba Town.
In attendance from Government was Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Rosy Akbar, Minister for Industrial Relations, Employment, Productivity and Youth and Sports Parveen Bala and Assistant Minister for Agriculture Viam Pillay.
