SODELPA Member of Parliament and Opposition Whip Lynda Tabuya said her acquittal from the charge of malicious act would have no impact on her bid for the SODELPA deputy leadership bid.

This was her response after Chief Magistrate Ratuvili yesterday approved prosecution’s application for a nolle prosequi to discontinue the case.

Ms Tabuya was charged for the malicious act for her post on her Facebook page which allegedly created public alarm, anxiety or disaffection, on March 19.

Yesterday she exited the Magistrates Court emotional and grateful for the support from her lawyer Adish Narayan from AK Lawyers, Filimoni Vosarogo and others.

She had pleaded not guilty.

Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions lawyer, Shirley Tivao, told the court that the ODPP filed a filing a nolle prosequi on August 14.

Mr Narayan told the court that he was grateful to the Director of Public Prosecutions for the decision to withdraw charges against his client.

He also told the court that Tabuya was a prominent political figure and had spent six months with the charge pending over her.

On the case, Ms Tabuya said: “I am hoping that the same kind of justice will be put forward for our Members of Parliament who are facing FICAC investigations.

“I am looking forward to carrying on and more to the 2022 General Election,” she said.
