Last month, Rajnesh Narayan was mourning the death of his Year Nine daughter, Jiya Jaanvi, who was murdered on July 22, 2020.

A father, who had lost his daughter less than a month ago, will never see justice for her murder. He died after a reported workplace accident.

Rajnesh Narayan of Vakasigani, Labasa, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed.

“It is alleged that the victim was watching his workmate cut a log into pieces when the incident occurred,” Ms Naisoro said.

The 40-year-old machine operator was working at Valebasoga Tropik Boards Limited in Labasa. He had been working there for more than 20 years.

His daughter, Jiya Jaanvi, a Year Nine student of Labasa College was murdered at Namara, Labasa, on the night of July 22. The killer is still at large.

When the late Mr Narayan was interviewed at the time, he recalled the final moments he had with his daughter.

The late Mr Narayan has been separated from his wife for more than two years. Jiya was living with her mother. He is survived by his father, and three siblings. He was the second eldest.

When visited yesterday, Hari Narayan, his father, could not contain his emotions and often blacked out or was just lost for words.

“It has been only few weeks we bid farewell to Rajnesh’s daughter and now we have to see our son’s casket,” he said.

When the company was contacted yesterday, media spokesperson Serupepeli Vueta said they would not release any details as Police investigations continue.
