Minnows Tailevu/Naitasiri, Lami and Dreketi scared the top teams in the Vodafone Futsal Interdistrict Championship 2019 at the Vodafone Arena, Suva yesterday.

Last night, Lautoka went down to Lami

3-1 while Tailevu/Naitasiri held Rewa 6-6 in a fiery clash and earlier on Dreketi also took Lautoka to the wire before bowing out 4-3.

Rewa fielded core of their players that recently won the Battle of the Giants tournament while Lautoka had veteran Labasa defender Taniela Waqa and Nadi striker Napolioni Qasevakatini in their line-up.

Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel said they are now going to invest into Futsal and Beach Football.

“We’ve not invested into Futsal but we are going to do it now,” Patel said.

“We’ve got courts in Suva, Ba, Lautoka and soon we are going to have in Labasa.

“This is when they finish the construction of the Fiji Football academy there where there’ll two grounds and a futsal court.

“This is a dynamic type of sport.”

Vodafone Fiji acting chief executive officer Ronald Prasad said they are delighted to reinforce their sponsorship despite the hard economic times we are facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Fiji is fortunate to have some form of normalcy despite there are restrictions we should abide by,” he said.

Prasad highlighted that there is a steady following on Futsal and this is evident with the growth in the number of players participating.

The competition ends today.
