The Fiji Amateur Boxing Association’s Big Monday Night Fights is getting bigger and better.

FABA development chairman Carson Young confirmed to SUNsports that they were staging 50 bouts in last night’s programme.

“Boxers travelled from as far as Navosa, Vatukoula and Ba,” he said as the boxers were at the Commander Stan Brown Gymnasium for their 7am weigh-in yesterday.

“There are also new clubs including one from Vatukoula who came over. This is the biggest we’ve had as before we usually stage 15 to 30 bouts.”

Young has commended amateur boxers from the West for their sacrifice to be in Suva for the programme.

“This is our build-up for the King of the Ring eliminations that will happen in a few weeks time.

“Boxers will need to fight at least three fights to qualify for the elimination for the regionals.

“The clubs from the Western division have really prepared well for this competition, they seemed to have improved with their fitness and ringcraft as well.”

The amateur boxing programme was still going on when this edition went to press.
