Murder Accused Told To Seek FCS Approval To Get New Sim

The Chinese national accused of murdering a woman has been told that he can seek the Fiji Corrections Service Commissioner’s approval to get a new sim card.
Translated by a Mandarin interpreter, Wang Qi Yong, who appeared before Justice Salesi Temo on Tuesday, told the court that he wanted the sim card. He said he wanted it to be taken to the Chinese Embassy where it would then be taken to the hotel where he was arrested.
He also submitted his request in letter, which was written in English.
Yong is charged with the murder of a 33-year-old Asian woman, who was found dead by her flatmate, at their home in Salato Road, Namadi Heights in Tamavua, on May 13, 2019.
Justice Temo commended the inmate who helped write Yong’s letter adding that had the inmate followed the law, he would have been one of those sitting on the bench.
Meanwhile, the trial for the accused, who is still on remand, will start on August 31.
