Namara Murder: 38 Days Since Murder Of Jiya, Investigation Continues

Today marks 38 days since Jiya Jaanvi, a Year Nine student of Labasa College was murdered in Namara, Labasa.
Many questions remained unanswered as residents wait for the outcome of the investigations.
Muna Lal, grandfather of the deceased, currently on Taveuni Island, was in tears when contacted yesterday.
“Every day I try to find out from Police about the offender and they reply saying they are still investigating,” Mr Lal said.
“Labasa is a small area and yet Police have spent over one month to investigate.”
The 70-year-old grandfather said he was told that the Crime Investigation Department team from the Police headquarters was in Labasa to assist in the investigation.
“I really wonder in sadness what all is happening,” he said.
“Last week we lost our son-in-law over a work-related accident in Labasa. I don’t know what more sad news to expect.”
Divisional Police Commander (DPC) Northern, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Eparama Waqa, confirmed that no arrest had been made so far.
“Investigation is continuing,” SSP Waqa said.
“We cannot confirm how much more time will be needed to conclude this case.”
He said this case was classified as murder.
The 14-year-old student was allegedly stabbed around 8pm outside of their house while hanging clothes on July 22.
