Odd as it may seem, Bramha Nand’s decision to start his paint business was partly assisted by the present pandemic and nearing retirement.

The 54-year-old former Dulux Trade Centre manager for Lautoka was given the nudge by his wife, Pranita and daughters Payal and Isha to go with his new venture and has never looked back.

With $30,000 investment, he opened up his own shop, Colour Perfect Paints at 11 Ravouvou Street in Lautoka.

Mrs Nand was a former manager for a duty free shop in Lautoka while Payal with her Bachelor of Science Degree has decided to also assist before pursuing further education.

“At this shop we will offer more with consultation service before actual paints are sold and applied,” Mr Nand said.

“Through my experience, I have noticed that most customers just buy paints and apply on top of existing paint without doing surface preparation.

“As a consultant my job is to do an RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and rectify what causes the paints to peel off.

“This way, customers will save money especially during this pandemic crisis where money is valued much more.”

Mr Nand said he had worked the last 10 years with Dulux Paints and has amassed around $48 million in sales in this time.

His major customers included leading resorts and hotels and he aims to carry on with these customers but for his own business.

“I realised that with the sales I had been making, I could have got that if I had a business earlier,” he said.

Isham his youngest daughter is still at Lautoka Central College; she wants to become the company accountant one day.
