“I am keeping my fingers crossed that the Police find my brother alive.”

These were the words of Deepak Dinesh Kumar, 27, whose older brother, Reenal Ravitesh Kumar, 29 assumed to have fallen overboard on Monday during a fishing trip.

A search party continued near the Castaway Island Resort waters yesterday for missing Reenal who had left home on a fishing trip on Monday with two other fishermen.

Mr Kumar said that the captain was preparing food while the third person was in the cabin when the incident happened.

“They don’t know what had really happened. The sea was rough. They claim they didn’t hear any sound. It seems to be a mystery,” Mr Kumar said

When a team from this newspaper visited the family yesterday a shed had already been erected at the Kumars’ compound.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed receiving a report from a 36-year-old boat captain on Tuesday.

Ms Naisoro said the victim had fallen overboard the vessel ‘Bongo’ when they encountered rough seas on Tuesday night.

The group included the boat captain and a 20-year-old crew member; they have not been able to locate the missing man since.

“The search by the Police, Navy and villagers is underway. The two men who accompanied the missing man were questioned and released,” she said.

“The missing man has a history of epileptic seizures.”

According to Mr Kumar their only sister has been married; the two bachelors still live with their father.

“He went out on Monday morning with the boat owner and another fisherman. I didn’t see him leave because I was at work.”

“All I am hoping for right now is for the Police to come and tell me that my brother is still alive.”
