Naitasiri Under-19 rugby lock, Keresi Maya, who allegedly punched a referee last Saturday has been released on bail.

Maya appeared before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne at the Magistrates Court in Nausori yesterday.

Maya is facing a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.

It is alleged that Maya on August 29 allegedly punched the referee Peni Talemaivavalagi during the match between Naitasiri and Tailevu at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.

Maya’s lawyer Simione Valenitabua sought for a later date for plea as he wished to read through the disclosures before Maya’s plea could be entered.

Maya has been released on a personal bail bond of $500.

Magistrate Somaratne has ordered Maya to surrender all his travel documents.

Maya has also been ordered not to interfere with any of the prosecution witnesses and not to re-offend while on bail.

The matter has been deferred for mention on September 18.
