Could he be our next star rugby speedster?

He first turned heads when he ran around Fiji Airways Fijian 7s winger Alasio ‘Mr Nitro’ Naduva to score a try during the Skipper Cup Premiership.

Nadi winger Vilikesa Driu has been scoring tries in all Nadi’s matches.

The Nadi Rugby officials has dubbed him ‘Pocket Rocket’.

Pocket Rocket is the nickname for any small person who is very fast and energetic.

Yesterday, Driu was training with the Nadi for this Saturday’s clash against Tailevu at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori.

For him representing Nadi is not new as his dad Vilikesa Driu (Snr) had been a Nadi football star who played with the likes of Savenaca Waqa, Rusiate Waqa, Emasi ‘Bacardi’ Koroi, Peter Dean and the list goes on.

“I want to score more tries since this is my debut year for Nadi and it’s very special for me,” Driu said.

“My dad represented Nadi in football and I am into rugby this time around. This is my debut season for Nadi rugby.

“I played rugby while with Ratu Navula College and Gaunavou Rugby Club from Namotomoto Village. For the Nadi franchise competition, I play Nadi Bay Sharks.”

Driu has not missed any game and his intercept try against Namosi last Friday was the much-needed catalyst in their 29-12 victory.

Nadi head coach Ilai Derenalagi said they have progressed.

“Most of the players are new to the Skipper competition when we first started.

“So far from their past games they have been astounding. This is a big boost for the future of Nadi Rugby,” he said.
