Since the passing of his wife in 2017, Waisale Tuwai had to play the role of a mother as well to their five children.

The 45-year-old native of Tamusua Village in Yasawa said it wasn’t an easy journey for him since his wife passed away due to pneumonia.

Mr Tuwai has been employed with the Lautoka City Council since 2011 as a handyman and is the sole bread winner of his family.

He told the Fiji Sun each day at work was a reminder to him to continue to work hard for his children.

“The income that I earn from this work is enough to support us,” he said.

“Life is hard but I always remind myself that I have to do this for my children.”

Mr Tuwai said he was looking forward to celebrating Father’s Day tomorrow with his children.

“Being with my children makes me happy,” he added.

“Although the journey hasn’t been easy I am blessed to play both roles of mother and father to them.”

He wishes all the fathers around the country a very Happy Father’s Day.
