Bumble Bee Seafoods in partnership with Kombat Sportswear Supporting Grassroots Programme provided $2,000 worth of sponsorship to the Ovalau Rugby Union.

Programme coordinator/sponsorship manager Malakai Yamaivava said the Under-19 team and women’s team got training vests.

Yamaivava said the sponsorship was provided to assist their participations in the Vodafone Vanua Championship.

“We believe that through our little support it will help players showcase their talents and skills in rugby,” Yamaivava said.

He said Bumble Bee Seafoods was introduced to Fiji as a strategic location to process Albacore Tuna in 1999.

“This long-standing arrangement which was recently renewed for a further 10 years, has proved hugely beneficial to both Bumble Bee and Fiji over the period,” he said.

“Through our social responsibility programmes, which include Day Care Centre, a school for the disabled, health initiatives and sporting activities, Bumble Bee seized the opportunity in reaching a broad spectrum of youths across Fiji through the Kombat Sportswear Supporting Grassroots Programme.”

“We have facilitated the supply of kit, training aids and tournament events across Fiji, reaching great numbers of participants and supporters of Fiji’s beloved game, rugby,” he said.

“We are proud to be a supporter of this initiative and have the opportunity to give back to the communities.

“We wish the Ovalau rugby team the very best in the Vodafone Vanua Championship 2020 and hope they qualify in the Skipper Cup Premiership in 2021.”
