Ravouvou In Court For Allegedly Breaching Quarantine Laws

The court heard that on September 8 the three without lawful excuse failed to comply with the order of the Permanent Secretary of Health and Medical Services namely by breaching the self-quarantine at their designated centre which was set in place for the protection of public health.

Former Fijian 7s star and Olympian Vatemo Ravouvou was among the five who appeared in court for allegedly breaching quarantine guidelines.

Vatemo Ravouvou of Saunaka, Nadi, Mikaele Turaganisolevu of Navunisole, Tailevu and Vateresia Kenona, of Namuamua, Namosi appeared before Magistrate Nirosha Kannangara.

They are each charged with one count of failure to comply with lawful orders.

The court heard that on September 8 the three without lawful excuse failed to comply with the order of the Permanent Secretary of Health and Medical Services namely by breaching the self-quarantine at their designated centre which was set in place for the protection of public health.

The three were represented by Legal aid lawyer Mudu Naivalu who informed the court that he had received the disclosures.

The court heard all were on quarantine and had breached guidelines by allegedly drinking grog and liquor together in a hotel room.

On the same matter, Aminiasi Sikivou and Seru Cavuilati appeared before Magistrate Nilmini Ferdinandez on the same charge. They pleaded guilty.

All five were bailed with sureties and a $1000 bail bond.

Ravouvou, Kenona and Turaganisolevu are expected to take their pleas on October 27 for mention.

Sikivou and Cavuilati’s will be sentenced on October 20.
