University of the South Pacific Vice Chancellor and president Professor Pal Ahluwalia is currently not making any statements on the fresh allegations made against him by Pro-Chancellor and council chair Winston Thompson.

“The fresh allegations made against me are with the USP Council and that is a body that I respect,” Professor Ahluwalia said.

“If there is anyone that should be making a statement it would be the Council. I am not in a position to make any statements for now.”

Mr Thompson alleged that the management, which is overseen by Professor Ahluwalia, disregarded the governance responsibility of the council. It referred to the actions and performance of the management.

Mr Thompson claimed that management deliberately disregarded the proper process and attempted to bypass the normal requirement.

He also said the management did not refer or inform the council about the July 2020 meeting of the University Grants Committee. He said the matter was only known through a comment in the report of Professor Ahluwalia to the Executive Committee which met on August 28.

He further added that there was no paper submitted to the Executive and Finance Committee and that the re-registration process of the University with the Fiji Higher Education (FHRC) was delayed, but the process should have been completed last year.
