Friends Outing Turns Tragic, Joshua Drown At Suva Pool
Joshua Pamatag drowned at the Suva Olympic Pool.

Joshua Pamatag, 14, and his friend had plans to go to an eatery in Suva on Saturday.

They ended up at the Suva Olympic Pool where Joshua drowned and became the latest drowning victim.

“It will never be the same again without my eldest son,” his father, Bamatang Ta’ake said.

The father of three children described his son as an obedient and polite boy.

“On Friday night, my son’s friend came home and asked if Joshua could go with them to eat at a restaurant in Suva,” he said.

“I didn’t know that he was going to the pool. My son knows how to swim so I don’t know what happened at the pool on that day.

“My son was someone who never talked back and would always do what he was told to do,” Mr Ta’ake said.

“I never expected to lose him at an early age. I was shocked and didn’t know what to say when I was told of the incident.

“The whole community is grieving his loss because everyone knows how he was.”

Mr Ta’ake said after the post mortem examination they would take his son to Rabi for his burial.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said: “Attempts to revive him proved futile and he was rushed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.” Investigations continue.

The drowning death toll now stands at 25 compared to 24 for the same period last year.
