Prominent Suva lawyer, Devanesh Sharma from R Patel Lawyers, will represent Canadian national Joshua Aziz Rahman during his trial.

Rahman, who appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar yesterday, is facing one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

It is alleged that on February 14, 2019, in Caubati, Suva, Rahman was found in possession of 39.5 kilograms of cocaine worth more than $30 million.

Defence lawyer Ashneil Nadan from Neel Shivam Lawyers told the court there was no confirmation from lawyer Ronald Gordon and when approached Mr Sharma agreed to take on the case.

He also told the court that Rahman’s custody period would be 24 months come February.

Justice Goundar has asked Mr Nadan to inform Mr Sharma to appear on October 9 for a mention to fix hearing dates.

Rahman was further remanded.
