Frances Malani, the daughter of former Opposition Whip ‘Tui Lomainasau’ Ratu Isoa Tikoca, has died after a battle with cancer.

Ms Malani died on Wednesday September 16 at 2:50pm.

Her husband Varinava Tiko took to social media yesterday to express his sadness.

“I’m very saddened and angry at the same time by the fact that such a faithful, ambitious and intelligent young woman, with so much education and potential and dedication; wasn’t given the opportunity to be able to fulfil her dreams and vision she had for her country and her people,” Mr Tiko wrote.

She hailed from Tokatoka in Tailevu with maternal link to Nabukadra Village in Ra.

“According to her Fijian status, a mixture of Chiefly DNA formed the basis of her nature we all know in her strong opinionated views of our indigenous culture,” he wrote

“She was one who stood for justice and fairness, and defended the human rights of other cultures, ethnicities and civilisation. This is proven by the broad spectrum of friends she had. However, her pride in who she really was, was always visible in her character and confidence.”

All traditional Fijian protocol will be observed at the Lifestyle Pacific property in Nadi today.

Her memorial service will begin at 9am on Saturday, after which she will be buried at Tavakubu Cemetery in Lautoka.
