Man On Malicious Act Charge To Enter Plea In October

Bani Dunn, who allegedly spread false news about positive cases of COVID-19, will enter his plea next month.

41-year-old Dunn appeared before Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara at the Magistrates Court in Suva yesterday.

He is charged with one count of malicious act.

Dunn allegedly posted on Facebook about positive coronavirus cases in April this year.

Dunn’s counsel Asilika Rogers from Toganivalu Lawyers told the Court that she had made representations to the Director of Public Prosecution’s Office to withdraw the charges.

Magistrate Wickramasekara adjourned the matter for plea to be taken on October 13.

Bail for Dunn has been further extended.
