Valemei On Track For World Cup

Rookie Fijian winger Semi Valemei scored a 90-metre try for the Canberra Raiders and later he stepped inside his marker to dive over for his second try.

They went on to beat Auckland Warriors 26-14 in the National Rugby League (NRL) clash on Sunday night.

Vodafone Fijian Bati head coach Josaia Rabele says Valemei is among a group of NRL wingers they are monitoring for next year’s Rugby League World Cup in England.

“With Suliasi Vunivalu leaving for rugby union at the end of the season, we are now looking at other potential wingers,” Rabele said from Levuka yesterday.

‘We’ve got NRL wingers like Valemei, Maika Sivo, Marcelo Montoya and Mikaele Ravalawa to look at.”

Rabele said there were a couple of local-based wingers who have impressed them and were now considered for the Kaiviti Silktails.

“Yes, Valemei has a promising future and he needs all our support,” he added.
