$3.5M Invested On Refurbishment Of Orchid Island

Orchid Island Cultural Centre is under refurbishment.
Owner Mohammed Ali said, he and Racer Group Pty Ltd, from Sydney Australia had invested $3.5million on the refurbishment of the whole island.
Orchid Island is situated in Veisari, Lami, and 20 minutes’ drive from Suva.
The cultural centre still houses a collection of old artefacts, photos, and documents.
Mr Ali said they started renovating the big bure, restaurant, and water slide last week, and hope to be completed by December.
“We are targeting to complete the renovation of the whole island in June next year,” he said.
Mr Ali said due to COVID-19, things were a bit slow, as no tourist were coming to Fiji.
“We are relying on the locals to enjoy the activities that we are building.”
Orchid Island opens on Monday to Sunday from 8am to 6pm.
Employees
Mr Ali said: “We currently employ around six workers, and the contractor. But once completed, we are looking at employing around 100 to 120 workers .
Suva West Business Park
Meanwhile, Mr Ali said the Pacific Building Solution (PBS) Suva West Business Park that would be built in Veisari would boost their business.
The $12m proposed park will be located across the Queens Road from Orchid Island.
Covering seven acres of land, the business park will feature warehouses, which will be on rent.
“We are happy of the fact that this business park would positively impact on Orchid Island.”
Mr Ali said this would be an opportunity for locals and tourist to visit their restaurant and the cultural centre.
“Many are not aware of what Orchid Island is all about,” he said.
