Four and a half years of sacrifice paid off for 23-year-old, Pooja Priyanka Mishra, after she was admitted to the bar with 17 other graduates on Friday at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.

The University of Fiji graduate completed her Bachelor of laws and her Diploma in Legal Practice this year.

She was admitted by Acting Chief Justice, Kamal Kumar.

Ms Mishra said her achievement came with struggles and hardships which was why aspiring law students need to be certain when choosing the profession.

“I faced a lot of challenges at times I got stressed out, like in my fourth year I was taking five units and it’s very difficult because of assignments and due dates, you have to stay up late and at times you can’t sleep,” she said.

The third eldest of four children acknowledged her father who encourages her daily.

“He is my role model and he inspired me to take up law so he was very happy on Friday,” she said.

Proud father, Director Traffic Senior Superintendent of Police, Mahesh Mishra, credited his late parents, Pundit Vidya Prasad Mishra and Vidya Wati Mishra for fostering principles that helped him raise his daughter

“It’s every father’s obligation to see their children prosper and coming from a disciplined organisation it was an honour to educate her to stand on her feet and serve the people through her profession as a lawyer,” he said

“She is the first lawyer in the extended Mishra family. She has uplifted our family name and it is a proud moment for all of the family but we want to thank almighty God for his continuous guidance and protection as well as our family and friends.”
