Former Suva lawyer, Shazran Abdul Lateef pleaded not guilty to drug-related charges.

Lateef was arrested on March 3 this year following a drug raid at his house in Suva.

He appeared before Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama at the Magistrates Court in Suva yesterday.

He is charged with one count of found in possession of illicit drugs.

It is alleged that Lateef on March 3, 2020, at Raiwai, was found in possession of 0.431 grams of methamphetamine.

The drug raid had resulted in the seizure of a clear zip lock plastic containing white crystal substances which was believed to be methamphetamine, and later tested positive.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Monish Chandra told the court that there were no admissions in Lateef’s caution interview statement, and that prosecution had filed and served another set of statements in the case.

Lateef’s bail was extendedand the case adjourned to December 30 to fix a hearing date.
