Never in the history of Fiji has a nature-based eco-seawall been completed within eight weeks.

But the people of Raviravi Village in Macuata have just set the record after the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama commissioned the seawall yesterday.

The village has 32 houses consisting of 145 people.

Turaga ni Yavusa Raviravi Village, Akulia Baini, said when Mr Bainimarama came to his village ten weeks ago he told him about the impact of climate change and requested for a seawall.

“Immediately, the PM consulted with the Minister of Waterways and Environment Mahendra Reddy, who promised that within few days he would send the machines,” Mr Baini said.

“The ministry spent around $20,500 for this project.

“We are very thankful to Mr Bainimarama and Mr Reddy for listening to our plight and delivering what they promised.”
