Two New Trucks To Boost Suva Garbage Collection

Suva City Council unveiled two new compactor trucks valued at more than half a million dollars.
The handing over was done yesterday at the Suva Civic Centre.
Suva and Lami special administrator chair, Isikeli Tikoduadua, said the two trucks were purchased by the council in February.
He said the two brand new Euro Four standard trucks would boost the garbage collection teams in Suva.
The two trucks were custom fitted with the compactors made for Fiji. The Euro Four standard means the trucks have much smaller engines but has greater power output.
“These are outright purchases made possible by the diligent ratepayers of Suva. We are able to add value and improve services,” he said.
“This is because we have very good ratepayers.”
Mr Tikoduadua said the trucks were also special because it coincided with the Fiji50 celebrations.
The trucks also carry the Fiji50 logo.
The Suva City Council has more than 100 personnel who do the hard work of collecting kitchen refuse, green waste and white waste.
Mr Tikoduadua said the health team was a well-oiled machine which ensured that residents of Suva were provided the essential service of garbage collection.
The two new Isuzu 7790cc have the capability of carting more than nine tons of garbage. The two trucks will start its services from today.
