Yasawa Marlins Determined To Do The Impossible Tomorrow

Minnows Yasawa Marlins are determined to do the impossible in their Farebrother-Sullivan Trophy challenge against holders Namosi at the ANZ Stadium in Suva, tomorrow.
Despite being winless in the Skipper Cup competition, Yasawa team manager Timoci Saukawa said they had set their goal for the double-header clash.
“The players are ready to play Namosi in Suva on Saturday,” he said.
“We understand that Namosi are working on their techniques and strategies but we are prepared for them.
“For us it’s after 20 years now and we have come up to the Skipper level where we want to make our mark.”
Saukawa confirmed that squad members of the Fijian 7s team – Napolioni Bolaca, Waisea Nacuqu and Kalione Nasoko – were not going to play on Saturday.
But they can still field winger Rusiate Matai, elusive Tomasi Rokomatu, flanker Kitione Salawa and Jone Tanoa.
“We can get the Farebrother, but it is how we prepare for it. We’ve been preparing during the few last rounds of the Skipper Cup. We’ve seen an opportunity on how to better our performance but we know we can do it,” the team manager said.
During the clash in the first round at Nadovu Park, Lautoka, Yasawa threw away a 30-5 lead as Namosi hit back to win 31-30.
Saukawa said 35 players have been camping.
“We’ve been doing our pool, gym and ball work sessions. But our goal now is to confirm the players who have selected for the Farebrother challenge.”
Saukawa said they were working on their forwards since they don’t have the depth.
“We will need to reshuffle a few players and we could see some new faces in the team this weekend,” Saukawa said.
