Australia Congratulates Fiji On 50 Years Of Good Sport

In Sydney today, the Classic Wallabies took on a spirited Fijian legends team in an exhibition match to celebrate Fiji’s 50th Anniversary.
The Classic Wallabies won the entertaining match, which featured Semisi Serevi, Naomi Roberts, Morgan Turinui and Justin Harrison.
Among the crowd at the game was Australia’s Foreign Minister and Minister for Women, Senator the Hon Marise Payne, and Fiji’s High Commissioner to Australia, H.E. Luke Daunivalu.
In a reception after the match, Senator Payne spoke about the strong sports links between Australia and Fiji, before presenting High Commissioner Daunivalu with a Wallabies jersey.
Watching over live broadcast in Suva were Acting Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, Ms Anna Dorney, chief guest Assistant Minister for Youth and Sport, Hon Alvick Maharaj, and members of the Fijian sports community.

“It was a fun match to watch and a great opportunity to celebrate 50 years of sport,” said Ms Dorney.
“Sport is a great part of the relationship between our countries. It is something that brings us together.”

“Over the past fifty years, Fijians have made a massive contribution to Australian sport. And for that we say thank you to Fiji,” said Ms Dorney.
Sports is a key element of the Fiji-Australia Vuvale Partnership, signed by Prime Minister Bainimarama and Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison, in September 2019. The agreement commits Australia and Fiji to developing more pathways for Fijian teams to play in Australia.
