Fiji Airways To Operate FJ50 Special Flight

Fiji Airways will operate one of its Airbus A350-900 XWB (DQ-FAJ) aircraft for a special flight around Fiji on Fiji Day, to commemorate the country’s 50th Independence Day anniversary while simultaneously fulfilling its fleet’s ‘ready for flight’ storage programme requirements.
Most of Fiji Airways’ aircraft are in a COVID-19 short-term ‘ready for flight’ storage programme, which requires periodic planned flights to ensure they are ready to return to commercial service rapidly when required. Our Airbus A350-900 XWB (DQ-FAJ) is slated to undertake its periodic storage programme flight in early October 2020. Other Fiji Airways aircraft in short-term storage have undertaken these flights.
The National Airline will use this opportunity to operate the Airbus A350 as FJ 50 Special Flight on Fiji Day on Saturday, October 10, to commemorate Fiji’s 50 Independence Day and raise funds for the Fiji Cancer Society (FCS).
A rare, low flyover around Albert Park is also planned as part of the Fiji Day official activities programme. Funds will be collected from a small number of on-board guests who will make donations for their seats, with all donations channelled to the FCS and used in the fight against breast cancer.
A total of 60 seats in Business Class and ‘Bula Space’ Economy Class will be made available for donations. A number of other activities will be held pre-flight and on-board, to raise awareness around cancer and its impact on Fijians.
Seat allocations to the first 60 guests will be offered as follows:
- 10 x Business Class window seats for a donation of FJ$ 500 each
- 20 x Business Class middle row seats for a donation of FJ$ 400 each
- 30 x Bula Space economy class seats for a donation of FJ$ 300 each
Seats can be booked (in return for donations) by calling Fiji Airways Tabua Club Team on service@tabuaclub.com or 3212410 / 9908373.
Guests onboard will enjoy this rare scenic flight around Fiji and some of its major towns and island groups, occasionally flying at low altitude (subject to approvals and conducive weather). A camera on the underside of the A350 will feed live views to every inflight entertainment screen onboard, giving guests a brilliant bird’s-eye view of the country as it celebrates its 50th independence day. A number of other surprises await guests around the FJ 50 Special Flight experience. FJ 50 Special Flight will depart Nadi Airport (International Departures Terminal) on Saturday October 10th, (departure time to be confirmed shortly) and will return an hour 30 minutes later. Seats will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. For more information, please visit www.fijiairways.com/fiji50.
Note:
Low altitude flying will be subject to necessary regulatory approvals and weather conditions on the day. There may be late changes to the flight plan due to any number of factors.
Currently held Flight Credits or unused Fiji Airways flights cannot be used to book/purchase the FJ 50 Special Flight. Previously purchased special sales (including Bulk Buy purchases) cannot be used to book/purchase the FJ 50 Special Flight.
