A hotel group trade show that brought not-to-be repeated deals was hailed as a success.

The Tanoa Hotels Group Trade show in Suva drew interest from over 100 partners, as the event showcased the group’s six local properties.

A first

The first of its kind for the group, the show was held to allow Fijians to plan and prepare early for their vacation in the coming Christmas festivity season.

Area general manager Tanoa Hotel Group Fiji, Narend Kumar, said the event was also an opportunity to showcase the results of a $10 million renovation at Tanoa Plaza.

“The renovations were completed when COVID-19 reached our shores – so, while we remained opened to keep our staff employed, there really was not much awareness on the hotel development,” Mr Reddy said.

“With some relaxation now on social distancing, we decided to take the chance to host the trade show.”

The lavishly renovated Tanoa Plaza has 60 rooms.

Head start

“We’re optimistic of the returns, as this gives corporates and guests a head start to proper planning of their annual Christmas and New Year’s vacation and events.”

Accommodation rates across Tanoa Hotel Group range from $99 to $145, as part of the group’s contribution to Tourism Fiji’s Love Our Local campaign, Mr Reddy said.

“People can start saving now,” he said.

“The best part about it is that we have tourism properties around the country.

“So guests can plan their trips around our Fiji hotels, and start mapping their route now for the festive season.”

The Tanoa Hotel Group, a pioneer of the tourism sector, is a 100 per cent locally owned and managed company, dating back over 50 years.

“Guests can now revisit their former holiday plans with Tanoa Hotel Group and capitalise on the flexible decisions and instant managerial decisions on rates.”

The future

Minister for Tourism Faiaz Koya said promoting local tourism was one of the most effective, and strongest strategies to deploy – not just in the wake of the pandemic, but in the future.

Officiating at the launch which was held at Tanoa Plaza, Mr Koya said the ministry’s Love Our Locals campaign was built to draw on consumer confidence and ignite economic activity in the tourism sector, he said.

He hailed the Tanoa Hotel Group for using the showcase as a platform to introduce guests to new experiences, under the campaign.

“I express my appreciation to the Tanoa Hotel Group for keeping Fijians employed in the tourism sector,” Mr Koya said.

Relentless

“Whilst employment numbers have reduced, I’m told the staff have been relentless in their support to the group by putting aside their normal job descriptions, and being hands on with any tasks available within their capacity.
