Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday launched Fiji’s official 50-year anniversary song called “Children of Fiji.”

Five months ago the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation decided to commission and co-produce the song led by Studio Manager Jone Nakasamai as a gift to Fijians in the lead up to Fiji Day this Saturday.

The song, which contains uplifting and patriotic lyrics sung in English, iTaukei, Hindi and Rotuman, expresses the resilience of the Fijian people.

Mr Bainimarama referred to is as the anthem of the moment, that captures courage and compassion, which has carried Fijians through hardships time and again.

“No matter the challenge Fiji faces –– whether it is cyclones or the coronavirus pandemic –– we know Fijians are at our best when we stand united. Together, there is nothing we cannot overcome,” he said.

“We are a people of many languages, many backgrounds and many religions. No matter who we are or where we come from, we are all proud daughters and sons of this nation. We are all children of Fiji. We all love this country. And nothing –– not even a global pandemic –– can snuff out the light of happiness in our hearts as we welcome our nation’s 50th Birthday together.”

He said this year’s Fiji Day celebration would be held at Albert Park at half-capacity in line with COVID-safe measures and it will be aired live throughout Fiji.

FBC chief executive officer Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said they worked on a song that reflected the nation building ethos of their organisation at a time when Fijians needed comfort, empathy and hope the most.

Vocals for the song were sung by artists Simi Rova, Phil Dakei, Billy T, Rosie, Samuela Taukave, Ramneek Singh and Sevuloni Tikina.
