A  60-year-old unemployed spinster looking after her 86-year-old mother is seeking housing assistance.

Kamla Wati was seen feeding her mother, Ms Sursati with water since she could barely eat after suffering from kidney problems.

The second youngest of seven siblings has been looking after her mother for more than 20 years.

“Since birth, we have been living in this old rusted corrugated house,” Ms Wati said.

“We don’t have any source of income.

“My mother is a social welfare recipient and she only receives $100 pension a month.”

She said with that money she used it to buy groceries, medicines and pay for taxi fare whenever she has to take her mother to the hospital.

“I am pleading for help,” she said.

“We don’t have enough food in the house; we don’t live in a secured house.

Anyone can break in anytime.”

They sleep on an old worn-out mattress on a cement floor.

Nagata advisory councilor Avitesh Deo said he had written a letter to the Social Welfare Department about their request.
