Nausori Alleged Assault Victim Dies In Hospital, Family Mourns

A bus driver who was allegedly assaulted by three men after an argument almost a week ago died at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital yesterday.
Family members of the driver, Subhash Chand, 56, said they were told by doctors that the life support machine was going to be pulled off because he had been unresponsive.
Mr Chand’s brother-in-law Satish Kamal said the family had been distraught.
“He was the sole breadwinner for the family. The whole community of Naduru in Nausori are in shock,” he said.
“He was admitted last Saturday and since then has been in a coma like state. And today, we were informed that doctors are going to pull the plug.”
Mr Chand’s wife Roshni Lata was in tears as the news was relayed to her.
The alleged incident took place on Saturday, October 3 at the Nausori Bus Stand when three men including a school teacher allegedly assaulted Mr Chand.
As a result of the assault, Mr Chand sustained severe injuries.
The three men were charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm, and were due to appear in the High Court on October 13.
However, new charges may now be considered.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said Police will await the post mortem examination result before deciding on the next course of action.
