Community Marks Fiji Day With Beach Clean-up
Viani Bay community had their clean-up campaign on October 10, 2020.

Members of the Viani Bay, Taveuni community chose to mark Fiji Day with a clean-up campaign on Saturday.

Organiser Marina Walser said about 30 people participated in this ongoing campaign.

She said the villagers are very conscious about the environment and they would also make sure that the beach area was clean so that it was not harmful to marine life.

Ms Walser said mostly they would involve school children so that through this campaign they could educate them on how to keep the environment clean and healthy.

She said they had set a new plan to plant more coral to support the marine environment.

“With these 50 years, Fiji has struggled and made the nation more powerful and successful for all Fijians so that they can feel safe and can fight for their rights,” she said.

Ms Walser said while Fiji was a world leader in the fight against climate change, protecting our nation means Fijians were also involved in this fight.
