Fire Leaves Family Without Home In Nadi

A fire has spoiled a family’s Fiji Day weekend after it destroyed their home in Nadi.
The owner of the home, Raymond Vikash Prasad and said it has added to his woes after he, as a driver at the Novotel Hotel was let go from his job due to the pandemic.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said a seven-bedroom concrete and corrugated iron home was completely destroyed in a fire which occurred after 1am.
Six people are homeless after the incident.
Mr Prasad said that he was watching television when he noticed smoke.
“I don’t know how it started. I ran out just jumped into my car and moved it.
“Then I went back and tried to stop the fire, but it was too fast,” said the father of four.
Mr Prasad said that there was a major extension done for the house two years ago after he got consent from his mother who has suffered a stroke.
He claims the total amount of damage is more than $200,000.
Ms Naisoro said the cause of fire is yet to be determined. A joint investigation between Police and the National Fire Authority is underway. Edited by Jonathan Bryce
