Tourism minister Faiaz Koya launched the reopening of the Warwick Fiji, hailing management for the resort’s participation in the Love Our Locals campaign.

The resort, at Korolevu, has re-employed close to 50 employees as a result.

“Going local is undoubtedly one of the most effective, and strongest strategies to deploy, said Mr Koya.

The Warwick Group’s Naviti and Tokatoka resorts reopened in July under the Love Our Locals campaign.

Tambua Sands will remain closed until the international borders open.

Staff

Warwick Fiji was also closed to business when the borders closed, sending most of its staff on leave without pay.

The skeleton staff that remained with the hotel did so to assist with guests queries about shifting their dates of stay because of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the resort said.

Revised menu

The resort decided to reopen on October 9, for weekends only.

“We will increase the number of rooms from next week as we are getting lots of enquires,” the resort said.

The resort commemorated Fiji Day with a flag raising ceremony at the Korolevu police post with cake cutting, kava ceremony, and entertainment for guests.

“Our menu has been revised to meet the budget of local customers with variety of food items to choose from,” the resort said.

Executive chef Abbas Fawaz said pricing of food and beverage were revised through the reduction in hotel tax to attract the local market.

“I can’t wait to meet our lovely guests and let them to try our dishes,” he said.
