Labasa welcomed home the Babasiga Lions who returned yesterday after defending the 2020 Courts Inter-District Championship title.

Fans waved and congratulated the players who beat Lautoka 2-1 in the final at the ANZ Stadium, Suva on Sunday.

Kindergarten children ran out of their classrooms as they waved excitedly to the players.

Labasa football player Akeimi Ralulu thanked God for the win as they had fasted and prayed for two weeks.

Ralulu said they also abstained from drinking alcohol and God answered their prayers.

Labasa Coach Ronil Lal thanked the players, their families, friends and fans that had supported them through difficult times.

When asked about continuing coaching, Lal said he needs to talk to his family first.

Meanwhile, Labasa Football Association president Riyaz Khan said a committee would be tasked to discuss celebration plans.

“We hope to have the celebration this Saturday but this will be confirmed by the committee,” Khan said.

He added the prize-money of $25,000 would be shared by the players.
