Dr Malani Recognised

Being one of the renowned names in the medical and education fraternity for many decades, receiving a 50th Independence commemorative medal was lifetime recognition.

Kidney Foundation of Fiji director and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Fiji National University, Dr Joji Malani, was recognised among 30 other recipients of the medals handed out by President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote, at the State House in Suva on October 13.

Dr Malani could vividly recall being part of the Independence Day celebrations 50 years ago in his Queen Victoria School uniform as a form five student.

Never in his wildest dreams did he know that 50 years later he would be recognised by the head of state for his immense contribution to the medical fraternity in the country.

“I am honoured to receive this commemorative medal and truly a lifetime recognition for me,” Dr Malani said.

“I want to thank the people who have nominated me into getting this and I only hope that my contributions in health and medicine will persist and progress into the next few decades,” he said.

“To be here on this celebration is very special.”

Dr Malani is skilled in Clinical Research, Medical Education, Internal Medicine , Gastroenterology, Nephrology and Respiratory Medicine.
