A Fiji Airways flight attendant who was terminated six months ago because of the COVID-19 pandemic, is pleased that he has been recruited again by the airline company.

Filled with emotion, Avikash Lal said being given the opportunity to be the face of Fiji again to the world was a triumphant feeling.

“Last week’s intake for the Fiji Airways staff was an emotional one. I cried when I was selected again to be part of the cabin crew and at the same time I was overjoyed,” he said.

“I felt blessed and I want to acknowledge the airline for selecting me to be part of their company. For the past three years, the airline has helped me put food on the table and support my family.”

When Mr Lal was handed his termination letter from the national airline, the 25-year-old took on a new challenge to survive.

From serving people in the skies, Mr Lal decided to get his hands dirty and farm the family’s 25-acre freehold land at Carreras in Nadi.

“I started work on the farm and just continued working to sustain our lives. We have a 25-acre freehold land and we have planted many vegetables to sell. I also sell my produce from house to house,” he said.

Mr Lal has been selling his farm produce outside the MaxVal-U Supermarket in Namaka, Nadi, and outside the NewWorld Super IGA at Votualevu.

Mr Lal recently won the 2020 Namosi Marathon, which took place last Saturday. He dedicated his achievement to Fiji Airways.
