Vivekta Chand was a proud daughter as she told that her mother, Rosylin Narayan is a cancer survivor.

The 20-year-old gave an emotional speech dedicated to her mother’s success in battling cancer. This all took place during a Pinktober Tea fundraiser at Bhawani Dayal Primary School, Nakasi, yesterday.

Ms Narayan, who survived cervical cancer after her three months treatment in India in 2018, was not present during the event.

“I was 18 when my mother was diagnosed to have cervical cancer in 2018. I was scared to lose her, and this haunted me every day,” Ms Chand said.

She said she was thankful to God for reaching out into her life and healing her.

“My mother is a strong woman and did not give up even though she was sick. She is fit to work, and she is currently at work today despite the battle she fought,” she said.

Ms Narayan’s husband, Vivek Chand said it was difficult to fulfil his family obligations after his wife was diagnosed because he had to be mindful of her health.

“We were supportive to her and encouraging her that this was curable. After her chemotherapy treatment in India, she was told by the doctors to keep visiting the Colonial War Memorial Hospital for her check-ups,” he said.

He said his wife was a brave woman and a role model after what she went through and she was happy to continue to work despite feeling weak at times.

The fundraiser event was organised by the Nasinu Arya Mahila Mandal under the leadership of Arya Prathinidhi Sabha of Fiji where around 50 women came together to promote cancer awareness.

The event had an open invitation for women to come and take part.

Funds raised are expected to assist the Fiji Cancer Society.
