Suva football team captain, Filipe Baravilala, wants them to win the 2020 Vodafone Premier League title.

The 26-year-old, Nawaisomo, Beqa, native who started his football career in Nadi has been leading the Capital City side last year.

“I’ve been playing for Suva for the past five years and we have never won a tournament nor a national league title since,” he said.

Suva currently lead the VPL points table, with 25 points followed by Rewa with 23.

In the second last round of competition, Suva take on Rewa on Sunday in what has been termed as the VPL decider.

Baravilala said apart from the VPL they were also eyeing to win the Vodafone Fiji FACT tournament which would be held in Labasa next month.

“We are looking forward to the Fiji FACT. We know it is going to be tough since we have not won any tournament yet,” he said.

“We will have to finish up the league, there are only two games left.  Firstly, we will try to win the league and then the Fiji FACT.”

Despite the 5-0 win against Nasinu on Sunday, Baravilala said they still need improvement.

“We will need to work on our finishing.

“All in all, we played a good game and the next game against Rewa is going to be tougher.

“We are going to utilise all the opportunity we are going to get.

“The game plan was just to play the ball and get opportunities, like I said the main weakness was finishing.”

He indicated that the pressure from opponents often caused players to lose focus on the field.

“Five years with Suva, no tournament and no league title yet. Sometimes players are not focused and not ready enough. We will try to iron that up,” Baravilala added.

Suva face Rewa on Sunday at 3pm at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori.
