Marica Muadrau is another happy woman after she was assisted with a $7,000 loan from the Government.

This is through the Government’s COVID-19 Concessional Finance Support Packages.

The mother-of-four children said she had faced a lot of challenges on the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

She owns the Reetha’s Handicraft in the Labasa Handicraft.

She said customers never turned up to buy her products during this pandemic period resulting in the loss of her business.

“There were days we made no sale and we had to struggle just to pay for the stall fees, let alone our own rent and food,” Mrs Muadrau said.

After her husband, a former primary school teacher retired five years ago, Mrs Muadrau utilised her skills and talents to provide for her and her husband. She did not want to burden her four children as they had families of their own.

Marica Muadrau was earning enough from her mats and other handicrafts to support her family in paying the bills, rent and for their groceries.

“I am thankful for the timely assistance from the Government, they stepped in to give us a low interest loan of 0.5 interest rate. And the best thing about it, is that we can start the repayment after completing the first year, which is 2022,” she said.

“With the assistance they have provided, I  have used half  to buy my raw materials that I need for sewing patchwork pillows, voivoi (pandanus), cotton threads. I have set aside the other half of the money and managing it well, to keep my business going.

Reetha’s Handicrafts specialises in mats which she weaves on her own, patchwork pillows, grass skirts and  garlands.
