Suva started their Vodafone Women’s Interdistrict Championship thrashing Nasinu 6 – 1 at the ANZ Stadium, Suva, yesterday.

“The girls have been training really hard, they were in camp for a month,” Suva team manager George Brown said.

“I think we are the only team in camp for a month and we’re fortunate to receive assistance from our sponsors.

“And due to our fitness, we managed to score six goals.

“We noticed that Nasinu’s fitness were not up to par in the second half so Suva we had the advantage,” Brown added.

Suva did not qualify to the semifinal in the last IDC, and they would not want to repeat that.

“I’m also urging Suva supporters to come down in numbers since we are hosting. And we are vying for the women’s IDC trophy this year.

“Early this year we did not qualify in the semis in the IDC in Sigatoka because of lack of preparation, so this time we are prepared well.

Suva face Nadroga today.

“We lost to Nadroga earlier this year, 3-1, so we are preparing to avenge that loss.”

What happened: Suva captain and national rep Viniana Riwai scored a hat-trick for the capital side.

Suva took an early lead through Torika Delai before the equaliser from Nasinu’s Livia Nasakure.

Delai scored her second to take the lead, 2-1, at halftime.

Litiana Bolaivanua added another before Riwai scored her third goal to seal the win.

Brown also praised Riwai for her superb performance.

“We are really pleased with her performance. She scored three good goals.

“I have urged her to go for the Golden Boot award,” he said.
